Presentations:
| Prelude to a Meditation .ppt, 2.78 MB |
In this presentation, we explore the reasons for following our Lord's passion, the historical, scholarly, and mystical sources. Included are scriptural references to the passion and death of Jesus, as well as various maps of the scene of the crime. We examine the Shroud of Turin and its implications to our Lord's passion and death. One of the many reasons for studying the many sufferings and eventual death of our Lord is to understand that the passion that Jesus endured was much more brutal and terrible than we have ever been led to believe. By trying to know the passion and death of our Lord, we begin to learn more about ourselves. |
| The Agony .ppt, 2.16 MB |
We follow Jesus from his walk to the garden of olives, his intense agony, the effects of hematidrosis, and his exit from the grotto into the hands of the betrayer. We discuss how this terrible agonizing evening contributed greatly to the sufferings he would endure later that night and the following day. |
| The Peripheral Injuries .ppt, 3.36 MB |
After Jesus is turned over to the archers, Pharisees, and others, he is first led to Annas and Caiphas, then to Pontius Pilate, to Herod Antipas, and finally back to Pilate. This presentation follows the path that Jesus took and contemplates the many tortures and beatings he endured every step of the way. These "peripheral" injuries are mentioned briefly in scripture, but contribute greatly to our Lord's horrific suffering he endured for us. |
| The Scourging .ppt, 2.71 MB |
In this presentation, we examine the tools and methods of scourging, as well as the many myths. We also study medical evidence to determine the physical and mental torture and pain that our Lord suffered. An important part of this presentation is the evidence found on the Shroud of Turin. |
| The Crowning of Thorns .ppt, 2.62 MB |
We begin to understand that the crowning was not just a mocking of our Lord, but a terrible physically agonizing ordeal that compounded His suffering even more. We study the type of thorns found in the crown, a possible scenario as to how the crown was constructed, and medical evidence outlining the excruciating pain that the crown had upon our Lord. We also discuss the possibility that the crown may have been removed and replanted upon Jesus' head prior to his crucifixion. |
| The Carrying of the Cross .ppt, 3.74 MB |
This presentation provides a historical view of crucifixions and the tools and means to put people to death in this manner. We follow Jesus as he exits his cell and has the wood placed upon his shoulder. We are then led every step of the way through the rutted streets up to the hill called Golgotha. We dispel myths and examine possible scenarios of our Lord's final footsteps on earth (prior to his resurrection). |
| The Nailing to the Cross .ppt, 1.87 MB |
How was Jesus nailed to the wood? Where did the nails penetrate? What are the Z-spot and Destot's space? How was he lifted up? What did he feel as the nails penetrated his skin and fastened him to the wood? What is the median nerve and what is causalgia? These are just some of the questions we examine in this presentation. |
| Dying Upon the Cross .ppt, 2.78 MB |
Jesus had been fastened and now hung upon the cross. We examine various scenarios including the use of ropes, the angles of his arms, the possible use of a footrest or a saddle. We contemplate upon his final words and thoughts and agonies. We examine various torments, such as cramping, sweating, thirsting, and solitude, that Jesus endured while hanging upon the cross. We endure the final moments on earth (prior to his resurrection) with him. We study various possible causes of death including Barbet's asphyxiation hypothesis and Zugibe's cardiac shock theory. |
| Mary's Story .ppt, 5.91 MB |
Where was Mary during all of Jesus' agonies and sufferings? As John tells us, Jesus speaks to Mary from the cross. Did she suddenly appear on Calvary as mentioned in the Gospel? We follow along the path of Mary as revealed by many mystical revelations of saints and religious throughout the ages. We come to realize that Mary shared very much in the many tortures that her son endured. |
